It's quite common to see comments saying that Super Junior or 2NE1 are getting old or see people calling idols over 30 ahjussis and ahjummas. Some even claim that they should retire. Even if some of these comments are just jokes, still there seems to be at least some sort of thinking that idols who are over certain age (usually past 30) are too olds to be idols. Some old kpop groups that have been hiatus or disbanded years ago are also coming back like god and Turbo- I wonder if they are still seen as idols?
Over 30 year old pop artists aren't that weird sight outside of kpop, there is some that just keep going years and years like Madonna, J.Lo and Beyonce- in japanese side boy group SMAP could be good example (in my understang they were quite similar as idols), when SMAP disbanded (just lately) all members were over 40 and quite big (in both size and popularity) boy group Exile has members over 30 as well.
But in terms of idol pop, is it awkward if over 30 years olds are still idols and promote midst all young adults and teenagers? Kpop after all is mostly aimed for teenagers. Personally I don't really mind or think it's too weird to have bit older idols around, though in other I see why it could be hard for them to remain as idols when idols are still expected to dedicate themselves to fans and not really get married and have children even if some idols have been breaking this mold like Ukiss's Dongho and Eli and Super Junior's Sungmin.
Shortly: Do you think at some age idols are too old and should quit being idols?
