Kyuhyun is the one of the two main vocalists of SM boyband Super Junior, and since his debut, he has been noted for his strong vocal features and for his silky tone. He recently launched his first solo álbum “At Gwanghwamun” in 2014, in where he has proven his voice is still developing in all areas.
ANALYSIS
Kyuhyun is a tenor singer that can reach both, very low notes (below the third octave) and high notes (C5 until D6).
VOCAL RANGE: G2-D6
He has the widest range out of all Super Junior members, and has performed most of the notes that are withing his range in many songs through his career.
Kyuhyun doesn’t have true weaknesses to note at the moment, since he has been working in order to improve his singing all his career. Unlike most vocalists, all of his registers are developed, ones more than the others, but his voice is able to shine in all of them.
The lower register of Kyuhyun is one of the best lower registers among k-pop vocalists. His intonation, support and placement through this register are very solid and he has shown he is able to sing until a Sol 2 (G2) in “Smile” and “My Thoughts, Your Memories” decently, while his voice starts to shine at Bb2.
Kyuhyun sings “7 Years of Love”. This performance perfectly showcases the development of Kyuhyun’s lower register, and as it’s compared to ‘At Gwanghwamun’, the improvement is noticeable.
Kyuhyun’s mid register is where his voice is at its peak. His placement all over the 4th octave is quite good and resonance is present without any problem, as well as his intonation. His belted notes tend to come out with an open throat and full resonance until the 5th octave with perfect tonality and a a very good breathing technique. At this point, Kyuhyun does not have any problems in this register.

Higher register is, as the other registers of his voice, developed. Even though he is not a “high notes” singer, he has shown good connection between notes until Eb5 with mixed voice, with good resonance and without losing tonality, while his falsetto is well supported most of the time. A good example of this is his performance of “Sorry, Sorry-Answer”, where he shows a solid transition between C#5 and E5.
CONCLUSION
Kyuhyun is the best example of a how a good vocalist, especially a tenor, should sing. His voice barely ever loses intonation, support or presents any trouble to properly connect notes. His physicall condition is also decent, since he has shown he does not lose presition while dancing and singing at the same time, this is due to a correct support on the diaphragma. His vibrato is very stable and transitions between chest, mixed and head voice are well performed. All of his registers are stable and well developed, with a not significant slowdown when it comes to his higher register.
In very general terms, I can say that at this point, Kyuhyun is the best male vocalist among all k-pop idols.
