Honestly I think Youngjae (From Got7), Yugyeom and Peniel should be noticed more.

Do yo think SM should do this?

Do you think SM should have a survival show for their rookies? YG and JYP's groups did well, so do you think it's a good idea?

I asked alot of people, some said that it's a good idea, as they would have a solid fanbase when they debut, and they would have a chance to showcase their talent before debut. But some others said no as they already have a fanbase and the idea is overly used...

So, what do you think?

[MY VOCAL ANALYSIS] — FAQ / Introducing the new vocal chart system

$

image

While I have been posting more analyses in allkpop, I have realized that many of you have the same questions/opinions about my criteria, my procedure or other factors that contribute to the creation of each analysis, those that I will try to explain in this thread.

Also I will post, for the third time, a more optimized “vocal chart” with a different presentation but the same methodology, in order to make it easier for the reader to understand the procedure of the project.

How do I determine which Idols I will analyse next?
  • Until now, I have mostly analysed those idols with which I am most familiar and/or those who are the most demande dones by the readers and that actually deserve to be analysed. For example, I have analysed the whole vocal line of groups that I follow the most like Girls’ Generation or 2NE1, but as the project gets bigger, the chances of other idols to join the list increase. My next projects are Lee Hi, Uji and Hani’s analyses, as well as some updates of current reviews.
What is the criteria that determine the numbered scores in the vocal chart?
  • The criteria is only based on technical matters, but the weight of each factor is determined by the analyst, who happens to be myself in this case.
    Intonation – 15%
    Support – 15%
    Breath Control – 10%
    Lower register – 9%
    Mixed register – 12%
    Higher register – 9%
    Placement – 15%
    Consistency – 15%
    TOTAL SCORE – 100%
[i]This method is, however, still trying to be optimized in order to reflect a more accurate rating for each vocalist.
Do I take in consideration every request from the threads’ comments?
  • Yes, I take each one of your requests in consideration for further analysis, but in some cases I have to drop the possibility due to the vocalist’s lack of material and/or his lack of ability to even join the vocalists chart.

INTRODUCING THE NEW VOCAL CHART

As many of you might have noticed in the beginning of the series, the first idea of the vocal rating was not with numbered scores, but with “greek lettered tiers” as despicted in the image below.

Due to the subjective rating of the numbered scores (subjective because it is me who puts the weight on each factor of the vocalist’s techniques), I created a not numbered vocal chart, which might also be easier to understand for the readers.

image

Where the highest chategory is deemed as “Alpha + vocalists” which includes those vocalists that can be considered as great, with almost no flaws when it comes to singing. Followed by “Alpha vocalists” that includes vocalists that are “Good / Very good”, “Beta vocalists” that refeers to those singers that can be deemed as “Competent” or “Outstanding”; “Gamma vocalists” for those who are in the average line; “Delta vocalists” for the vocalists that are in between the line of being “weak” and “average” and finally “Omega vocalists”, created for those vocalists who are technically bad or weak.

BIGBANG and EXO to Attend the 5th Gaon K-Pop Awards

image

by: notclaira  @ Soompi

Representative K-pop groups BIGBANG and EXO have been confirmed to be attending the 5th Gaon K-Pop Awards on February 17, 2016.

The Gaon K-Pop Awards is held every year by Gaon, a national music record chart in South Korea, to commemorate the top artists in the domestic music scene in the previous year. Awards are given to the top artists for every month of the year (based on digital song sales) and every quarter (based on album sales).

BIGBANG made their five-member comeback in 2015 after a long hiatus, releasing a new single every month from May to August as part of their “MADE” album series. They are currently in the middle of their highly successful world tour.

EXO also had a strong showing in album sales this year, releasing their second full-length album “EXODUS,” the repackaged version “Love Me Right,” and the special winter album “Sing For You.”

Both groups are expected to perform at the ceremony at the Seoul Student Gymnasium on February 17, 2016.

BTS to Join BIGBANG and EXO at 5th Gaon K-Pop Awards

image

by: orionight  @ Soompi

It has been announced that BTS will join BIGBANG and EXO at the 5thAnnual Gaon K-Pop Awards in February next year!

Since its inception in 2012, the Gaon K-pop Awards presents awards to artists for every month of the year for strong digital sales and awards for every quarter of the year for strong physical album sales. The awards are hosted by Gaon, one of the biggest domestic music charts in South Korea.

BTS has done exceptionally well, with the release of two EP albums in 2015. The first part of “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life” released in the spring, followed by the second part in the fall. Additionally, two gorgeous music videos for “I Need U” and “Run” told two parts of the same story.

The ceremony will be held in the Seoul Student Gymnasium on February 17, 2016.

Taeyeon Confirmed to Attend 5th Gaon K-Pop Awards

image

by: an0ya  @ Soompi

Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon has joined the growing list of top artists attending the 5th Gaon K-pop Awards held in February.

According to local news outlet Star News, she has been confirmed to attend the awards show.

Many are wondering what kind of appearance she will make at the annual event. Back in 2012, she hosted the first-ever Gaon K-pop Awards together with composer Joo Young Hoon.

This past year has been a particularly busy one for Taeyeon. Following the lengthy promotions for Girls’ Generation’s fifth studio album, she soon followed up with her anticipated first solo album and enjoyed great success with the title track “I.” And just a couple of weeks ago, she returned to the stage with the release of TaeTiSeo‘s new holiday album.

Meanwhile, previously announced attendees include male groups EXO, BIGBANG, and BTS.

English in Kpop

$

0
Two main points...

Engrish... ya know "Don't deny our love is R squared Pi" "Sexy free and single I'm ready to bingo" "Fantastic Elastic" the list goes on. When I first got into Kpop, the engrish was hilarious and I didn't mind it. But now a days (6 years later) I have standards I guess. I find it lazy. Especially when there's an English speaking member in the group, and/or it's a big name group/entertainment company (I'm looking at you SM -_-) Like... there's millions of native English speaking fans, Kpop is more international than ever before. 1. companies should be more diligent. 2. there's MILLIONS OF FANS. 99% of which I'm sure would be happy to check these lyrics for FREE (Including me). It's just so lazy and unprofessional to me. It can make an amazing song into a meh song.

Accents are different, people can't really help that. But I feel like they should practice their pronunciation some more.

Also. How do you feel about English in kpop? Do you hope for it? Do you not care? I've noticed I'll remember a song much better, and typically enjoy it more if there's English in the song. But I'll still love a song if there's no English. I'm just sayin, songs stick out to me with English. Which I'm sure is pretty much their purpose.

Opinions? Just wondering if I'm alone in this.

Ideal number of Kpop members in a group?

4-5 seems ideal. 7+ is overkill and leads to one/two members being the face of the group

Could anyone recommend me some girl groups that are cool and not overly sexy or cute, possibly with hip hop elements. Awesome choreographies are a plus :D I'm not really a fan of light and girly high pitched music.

Top 5 Korean Titles of January 2016

Post yours and give reasons if you can.

Here are mine:

5. Jung-in - UUU

I'm very picky with ballads but even though the composition isn't anything extravagant the high notes toward the end and overall progression of the song leave you pretty speechless. Well done again Leessang Company. One of the first non-idol songs I listened to this year and it's truly a hidden gem.

4. Dal Shabet - Someone Like U

At first I wasn't loving the song upon first listen. It was good but felt like I had heard something like this a thousand times before. And yes while it's not totally original, it is indeed very catchy & the signature Dal Shabet 80s hints in the song really tie it together nicely.

3. DAYBREAK - Spotlight

Synth and rock go so well together. Loving this calm and content feel this song gives you. Overall a well composed song.

image

2. CROSS GENE - Noona, You

At first listen I was pretty overwhelmed and didn't know what to think of the song. But on the second try it made a lot more sense, especially since the MV was also a bit distracting (in a good way because the plot was hilarious yet low-key displayed a feminist message). Overall the song incorporated a lot of styles and has a J-Pop feel to it as well. The chorus and arrangement of this song also gave a GD - Crooked vibe. A very solid comeback by CROSS GENE.

image

1. The Vane - Identity

The more I listen to this song the more I love it. Rock is my favorite genre and the indie-styled rock in this song is very touching. This song pulls your heartstrings. I'm searching for lyrics at the moment too.

image

This band debuted last year and have really piqued my interest! I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.

Most Underrated Rookie Group/s of 2015?

I don't know much about girl groups but with the boy groups, Romeo has got to be the most underrated. I don't know if this has already been talked about but I love their songs and the choreography for Target was hella awesome! They could rival Seventeen (this coming from a big fan of Seventeen) in terms of performance and appeal. They seem talented and promising but they aren't as well-recognized. Why is that? :(

Anyway, do you know other underrated rookie groups from last year?
